What is a Punch Needle?

In 1995 Amy Oxford, a well known rug hooker from Vermont, USA, designed the Oxford Punch Needle. This tool makes rug hooking very easy and fast. The Oxford Punch Needle forms one loop after the other as you punch it through your fabric. Because of the punch needle design and functionality the loops are created more evenly than using a traditional rug hook.

The Oxford Punch Needle is ergonomically formed and comes with a wooden handle. It’s made in the USA and designed by punch needle expert Amy Oxford. You can use it with yarn, cut strips of wool, or fabric.

The flexibility of working with the Oxford Punch Needle is a pure joy. You can use almost any kind of yarn (weight depending on the needle you’re using), you can use pre-designed templates, but also change the look as you go. It’s almost like painting by numbers, but with wool and more flexibility.
